Default Northbridge Fan

I have a new Gigabyte 8I955X - Pro Motherboard. All is well, but i have a question. The motherboard came with a fan to go on the northbridge, but the mat that the fan sits on never came with the box. Is this normal, does it mater if i dont have a fan on the northbridge, i havnt turned it on yet because i am to scared wat could happen
Thanks

Are you going to be overclocking? If not there is no need for a fan on the northbridge. And if the fan fits without the "mat" it should still safely sit in its place.

Iv looked at pictures, and i have nooticed it just sits by itself ontop of the metal heat sink, and clamps onto the side of the heatsink. Does this sound right?

You mean cooling paste? Thats located between the heatsink and chip. Not the heatsink and fan.
