Default [RESOLVED] COM port problem

I was fixing some old pc's with a friend of mine.
Got a strange problem. Everything works except for the mouse.
There's nothing on board except for an old-fashioned keyboard connection.
COM port has to be connected to the mainboard on a 9 pins connection.
Then there's a wire to the port that you get in the back of your pc.
This should be the connection for my mouse.
But anyway I plug it on to my mainboard, Windows 98SE does not detect any mouse.
What might be my problem?

Howdy Bluefish.

Make sure that the 9 pin cable is connecting to the correct place on the motherboard and also that it is the correct way round.

The next thing is to make sure that inside the BIOS you have Plug and Play ENABLED... That is normally the cause of these kinds of problems.
