Also a question that has probably been discussed hundreds of times here; Shall i go for a pentium 4 or an athlon. I currently have a pentium 4 2.0ghz. I've heard that athlons are quicker.
Is there a certain speed processor that anyone can recommend?
cheers.
Ahhh...the old chicken and egg....shall I, shan't I.....
Hardware prices are currently very low and so if you were confident enough to dip your toe in the "home-built" market then you could save yourself a packet! That said, you really must know what you are doing or it could all end in tears :sad2:
BUDGET is the key here - do you have a budget that will allow you to upgrade your motherboard along with the other things? You never ask a geek (me

) if you should "upgrade your system"...I will always say
YES!!. If you feel that the money is there and you actually
need the added performance then yes, why not. Upgrading your motherboard will give you a certain amount of future proofing, but sadly not much.
Athlon vs Pentium - yup, an age old arguement. Comes down to personal choice as the row that will develop in here if I argue for or against just ain't worth it!!

(p.s. - I am an Athlon fan - BIG time)
As for recommending a certain speed of processor - go for the fastest that your budget & motherboard will allow - simple.
