I have a HP Pavilion a1101n Desktop PC with a Samsung SyncMaster 512n flat screen display. After restarting for an automatic update one day a few weeks ago, my desktop came back on in a "default" arrangement and the resolution was all weird. I attempted to change it back but must have set it to the wrong resolution, cuz the screen went to a 'bouncing' message saying something like “Not at optimal resolution, 1024x768 60mz recommended”. I couldn’t see the screen to change it, so I rebooted a couple times and it came back to the “default” desktop. I set the resolution correctly and was fine until the next time I had to restart. The message was back and I again, had to reboot til I got the desktop to appear again. This has happened a few times now, and I absolutely dread turning the machine off. I’m afraid all this rebooting is really bad for it.
Is there a saved configuration that I need to access and change to stop this from popping up? Are there a set of keystrokes I can use to change the resolution without seeing the screen? Do I need to update my video drivers? What is wrong with this thing!?!?
please help,
=Daniel
