Pending: 2nd monitor not receiving info from laptop

So I've had to replace a dead computer and am sorting out the issues...

I've got an HP HDX18 running Vista Home 64 and I'm trying to extend my desktop onto an LG Flatron L1720P...

The monitor has a DVI cable and my laptop has a VGA input. I got a DVI-VGA adapter, so far so good. Plugged in the monitor and set the screen to use both monitors. The computer seems to recognize the monitor and my mouse-space has adjusted accordingly, but the monitor doesn't act as if it is receiving any information from the computer, going immediately to power-saving mode.

Any thoughts?

Hello Heiro5!

My apologies for the delay in responding to your post.

Are you certain that you haven't gone beyond the resolution capabilities for your lappy's video card? Or that the lappy's max resolution is below the capabilities for the monitor?

No worries on the delay, we all have lives...

I'm not really sure, regarding the video card's max capacity... But the rig is brand-spanking-new so I figured it could handle a second monitor no problem.

The card is an NVIDIA GeForce GT 130M... Max VGA Resolution: 2048x1536.

Currently the laptop's screen is at 1920x1080 (I think).

The Flatron L1720P's resolution is 1280x1024.

Hmmm... that does add up to 3200 pixels across (is that the unit we're dealing with?).

If that is the issue, where/how do I address it?

The help is greatly appreciated.

Would you please make sure that the laptop has the correct drivers installed for the LG monitor?
