Unhappy LCD monitor display problems

I've just bought a Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO SL 3230T 23: LCD. At the moment I have it on what should be the native resolution (1920x1080) and the refresh rate is only 60 mhz, so its tiring on the eyes and what's worse, the screen flickers badly against a dark background.

When I adjusted it to the lowest resolution that would accept 75 mhz (1440x900) all the screen text goes fuzzy. While there's no flicker at that resolution, text looks terrible. The edges are blurred and I don't know what to do. I've tried adjusting from Standard text to Clear Type, everything. It's driving me mad

Ideally I want it on 1920x1080, but I can't work when the screen flickers like that.

My graphics card is a GeForce 8600GT, and I'm running Win XP on a fairly high-end system.

Can anyone help me? How to stop the screen flickering?

Thanks!

Steve

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum.

Have you updated your video drivers? GeForce Release 178

Thanks for the prompt reply!

Yes, I had already updated to the latest drivers and it did help a bit, but there's still a visible flicker. As I'm a translator and spend up to 10 hours a day at the PC, this is really annoying.
I've looked everywhere for possible solutions but nothing has helped so far.
Would it make a difference if I replaced the VGA cable with an HDMI? It's all greek to me but I saw it mentioned on various forums.

Have you tried to configure the TV in both windows display settings and NVIDIA Control Panel advanced options?

Leave it on the default native resolution 1920 x 1080 x 60 hertz, then use a dvi cable with it. There should / might be a noticeable difference with using one.

I have never seen or had flickering with a LCD monitor, I run both of mine at the default 60 hertz...

I've tried all the settings I can think of - Nvidia control panel, windows settings and appearance, I've tried different brightness/contrast levels, all with no result.
I'll try the DVI cable, it's the only other thing I can think of...

Cheers
