much the same has happened to me.
It's been playing up for the last 3 weeks. Monitor would not start, everything else would work ...fans and lights and all. The I switched off for a good couple of seconds then switch it on again- then it would start again. But not yesterday.

Immediately just thought it was the monitor, as It's very old. But tried an even older monitor from our cellar and it won't want to start as well. Tried with a new BIOS battery. No success.

Do I need a new graphics card or motherboard?

Could be either so assume it's the graphics card. Can you borrow one and swap it out?

im not the computer expert really but I think I can have a look at an old computer we have in the house...

i take it, it is relatively easy to change and try out. I'll have a lok ans see.
