Has any other hardware been fitted recently to this computer?

I am afraid the graphics card maybe be broken.

nope, not recently, it's been in the storage for a few months

yes i do

have you tryed to get into the bios ? sometimes it will let you into bios if you hit the key quick enough, and if you can get the moniter to stay on while in bios then try to keep hitting f8 when you power up to get to the safe mode screen IF it lets you get that far then try "enable vga mode" and hit enter, see if that helps if so then try to lower the resolution and reboot and see if it stays on then, that has only worked for me once but its worth a try..
