Default Monitor will not work without internet connection?

This does not make any sense to me but I had to replace the power supply on my PC and now the monitor will not pickup a signal unless there is an internet connection. If I unplug the internet from the router to reset it (which I have to do from time to time), the monitor shuts off and I must restart my computer once the internet connection has been re-established.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to PCHelpForum.

Please check your power options in control panel.Your LAN card could be set to power off/on the monitor?I would also check what your setup in BIOS is?

I will mark your thread as "Open" for our Tech Team to check.

Thankyou.

JB,

Thanks for the reply

I do not see any power options involving the LAN card in control panel. As for BIOS, everything looks normal.

I also determined that the internet connection does not actually have to be established for the monitor the work, but the power cord must simply be connected to the router.

Hey sfg,

I don't see how LAN could possibly have aaaaaaany relation both hardware and software to your screen. They are not directly connected, however, it's possible something might have gotten a little screwey when your PSU was replaced.

At what point does your monitor turn off, the moment you disconnect your LAN cable?

Madmonkey,

The monitor shuts off the moment I unplug the power cord from the router, or when I unplug the ethernet cable from the computer.

wow. when this happens, are you sure the PC still running? Lights on the keyboard: hit the [Num Lock] key and see if the PC still responds at this point?

Can only be hardware. Just out of curiosity, what PSU did you buy? The PSU is the foundation of your computer, and provides reliability and stability. The PSU should provide enough power for all of your components. If you have a poor quality PSU, then you can really expect the unexpected. I'm also thinking that maybe the motherboard could have been damaged when the PSU was being swapped out? maybe when the 20/24 pin molex connector was connected up. Finally, are all of your screws accounted for? You wouldn't believe how many motherboards I've come across with screws lodged underneath.

madmonkey,

Good call--the number lock key is not responding once the monitor shuts off.

I installed an extra power supply my father had around. Perhaps I should invest in a new one.
