Hey,
Im new here and I have a problem with my laptop. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The other week my laptops fan was running overtime so i tried opening up my laptop to clean it, but after removing all the screws and still not being able to do it I gave up.
I put everything back together again but after turning it on, nothing displayed on the screen. I can hear it boot up and the lights on the power switch and DVD drive turn on, but nothing come up on the screen.
I tried an external monitor but nothing still. Then i tried the shortcut to put it to an external monitor but still nothing. I am suspecting a graphics card problem because the external monitor doesnt work either, but I am stumped on this... Please help!!

NOTE: I didnt unplug anything (intentionally) when I opened the case.

Hi -- Welcome to PCHF.
If the fan seemed to be running overtime-- you most likely had an overheating problem.
If it got too hot --it could have damaged the video-card.
We can try to help-- but need more info.
Mainly the laptop's Make and model number (exact, please-- there are thousands of models --with variations) There will be a plate somewhere on the underside with the exact info.

It was working well before I opened it though so i doubt it damaged the card, plus it wasnt all that hot, i just noticed the fan running a lot more frequently heavy.

It is a Compaq presario V5000 ( it says V5102TU under that)
the model number is HSTNN-C17C

If any other info is needed please ask. ANY help is appreciated, I really want my laptop up and running again

How old is this laptop?
Are you running XP or Vista ?

Its a second hand laptop and im pretty sure the guy before me had it for around 1 year and a half, plus the time I've owned it (about a year) its around 2-1/2 to 3 years old.
Its currently running win XP pro (SP2)
