Default Monitor AC Adapter

I own this monitor

Newegg.com - FujiPLUS FP-988D Silver-Black 19" 12ms LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 600:1 Built in Speakers - LCD Monitors

The original AC adapter it came with always had problems, and I eventually replaced it this universal one:

Velleman Inc.

I have had a LOT of problems with this too, but it worked for a couple months. The other day I had to turn my monitor on and off to get it to work (more than usual) and today it just stopped working. I picked the thing up, and it was leaking some kind of acid on my desk. It's safe to say I need a replacement. What is a relatively cheap, yet still reliable AC adapter anyone would recommend for my LCD monitor? Ideally, I want to find one on FRYS.com so I can just go in to Fry's and not wait for it or pay shipping. Thanks in advance.

Hey DHill,

Yep, apparently that monitor has a reputation for that type of thing. I've got a call into Frys, where in the country are you? If you don't want to post that, send me a PM, and I will see what I can do to get one waiting for you.

Looking forward to your reply,

I'm in Pleasant Hill, CA, the closest fry's to me is in concord. Ideally I want to spend under $30..and maybe even return the one that broke on me, because a fry's employee recommended it, and I'm not sure if it is even meant to be on as much as a monitor is. Thanks for the help.

also - I found an AC adapter in my garage that works very well with my monitor right now. It looks really old, and it reads:

input: 117VAC 60Hz 33W
output: 11.5VDC 1.95Amp
For use with TV receiver

Should I not be using this? Will it mess up my monitor?

I'm from out that way!

If it is working, and you haven't had anysort of heat smell, or odd sounds, I'd say you were OK. Let's see what the Fry's folks have to say, and I would Definitely get them to take the other one back.

I'll post back, probably on Monday, I wouldn't expect an answer before then.

Yeah and if this ac adapter I'm using now ends up being fine I will just keep it. It's working out very well so far.
