I will let madmonkey know you still require help on this problem.

Yes laptops have a BIOS battery exactly the same as computers.

It could be hidden under your RAM for example.

JB.

Hey Perc, I thought you had disappeared into a black hole or something!!

Yes, the screen issue really did sound like a software issue to me, which is why I mentioned the [FN]+[F5] keys. Windows will default to the first available monitor, and unfortunately with many laptops, removing the screen doesn't necessarily remove the driver.

Your latest problem sounds like a power issue to me. Dead battery, and by the sounds of it, you blew your power adapter as well?

well, when I try and boot it from the battery (no wall adapter) it starts to boot, you hear the HD start to spin and then it dies. I will try and post a video of this since I have my video camera handy. Back in a few....

so I was wrong, not the HD spinning it's the CD-ROM I'm hearing. However, here is a video of the boot up as it is now.

Hey Perc, there are two possibilities:

1) As I mentioned, if there is not enough battery power to start a post test. At this point, depending on the laptop, it will shut down just like that!

2) If your absolutely certain that the battery is OK, the only other thing it could be is the motherboard or CPU. I can't see any other test than to actually try a different CPU, or taking the CPU to a repair shop for testing. Was the heatsink and cooler connected up properly at the time? If so, it's more likely to be the motherboard. With everything you have told me, it would cost you as much to replace all the faulty components, motherboard, power supply etc, than it would to buy a completely new laptop. You did say you might of fried something putting the laptop back together?
