Default Sony VAIO Moniter Issues...

I have a Sony VAIO PCG-GRT30P laptop. When I turn it on I can occasionaly get to see the BIOS and what not, then it will make a funny noise and the screen goes black, however the rest of the laptop still seems to be running. I've tried running an external moniter and the same thing happens. Any ideas???

Hey D1,

You won't be able to resolve this issue yourself, what is the last message you have on the screen before it happens?

Hey,

It doesn't show any error message at all or anuthing like that, the screen just goes blank after this weird noise happens(like something high pitched winding up then stopping)

It happened awhile ago and I pulled the screen out and put it back together making sure all the connections where good and it resolved it up until the other day. Now nothing, I'm lucky to get through the BIOS before the screen blanks out.

Thanks D1,

I wasn't looking for an error message, I'm just trying to find out what the very last thing you see on the screen before this happens, the very last message, for example the Windows XP loading screen, or a post screen message such "PCI Device Listing.." or something like that.

It's very random, sometimes it will get to windows, more often it won't get very far past bios.

Ahh, ok definately hardware then D1. I thought by your original description it may have been the refresh rate but that won't take effect until you make it past the Windows loading screen. If it's random, and the monitor is doing this before that point, then your in trouble!!

The only thing it can possibly be is the oboard graphics chipset, which is built into the motherboard. Is the laptop no longer under warranty?

Nah its quite old now no warranty coverage, the Graphics card is removable, nVidia GeForce FX Go5600, I have the laptop apart atm, as if I can fix it then cool, if not no biggie. So I should hunt around and try find a Graphics Card for sale then?
