Default Monitor display goes blank

I have a Dell PC and LCD monitor which has worked fine from new for several years until a couple of weeks ago. The display and monitor power light suddenly began flashing after having logged on to my profile. I switched the monitor off, waited a few seconds and switched it back on again. But after quickly displaying the contents of the screen, the monitor went blank again with the power light remaining on (green). The computer appears to still work as it will process any keystrokes and update the display accordingly - however the contents of the screen can only be seen briefly if I switch the monitor off and on again.

Unfortunately I do not currently have access to a spare monitor to try to see if it the monitor which is at fault. Any ideas anyone ?

Have you tried going into Safe Mode to see if the monitor works on the default Windows drivers (16 colours)?

Many thanks for your reply Arctos. I just tried Safe mode but its still the same - I have to press the screen power button off and on again to be able to briefly see the display.

I've hooked the monitor up to a laptop with the same results. When I press the Fn and F4 keys together the display briefly appears on the monitor then disappears.

I think its time to get a replacement monitor.
