Default CRT Monitor randomly goes blank

Well I have an issue with my monitor randomly turning off and now it won't turn on at all. This first happened when I came home from college and the monitor one day just randomly went to a blank screen and a flashing light with a click noise signaled the screen going blank. The monitor light was still green so I knew it was on but something was wrong. So I tried rotating it a bit until I heard a click noise and then I turned it off then on and it went on like normal. From this point on, the monitor would go blank randomly with that flashing light and I could mess with it and it would work again after a small click.

A few days ago though, the monitor turned blank again and I turned it off and tried turning it back on, but there is a constant clicking sound and the green light flashes on and off. This now leaves my monitor not being able to even turn on let alone the screen going blank randomly issue. Anyone have any idea what might be the problem? I think something might be loose on the inside but I have no idea how to fix a monitor and I don't want to shock myself. I currently don't have the money for a $160 newegg flat screen so that is out of the question for now. Thanks for the help in advance guys, I know I can rely on this community.

I'd suggest getting a used monitor from a computer shop.

I would not try to fix the monitor myself, if I were you.
Even with the power cord removed, the capacitors in the monitor themselves could kill you.

O_O I think I am just going to get a cheap PCI vid card with a composite connection and hook it up to my tv for now...those capacitors don't sound too fun.

Hey, that's funny!!

Yup, if you get ahold of the wrong thing inside a CRT monitor it will knock you into the middle of next week, with one eye looking at Monday and the other one looking at Friday.

Sounds like you have a good temporary fix all worked out. Good Luck.......
