Default Can a monitor extension cable be used as a normal cable?

I just got a new pc and my current monitor cable doesn't fit it is male/male but my new pc needs a female type plugging into the back of it. I've only had a quick look but the only ones i could find that where male/female were extension cables.

So just wondering if i could plug this into my monitor then into the back of my pc and it would act like a normal cable?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to PCHF

If I understand your question correctly, all you'll need is one of these: Cables To Go - HD15 VGA Adapter Female to Female 02751 at TigerDirect.com

But in theory, your set up should be able to work in the way you are proposing
