Angry Power Save Mode message after VideoCard install

My computer specs should be listed for my profile, if not here they are again along with my problem.

Before I decided to update my Video Card, I was using,
Motherboard= ASRock 4CoreDual - SATA2 R2.0
Video Card= Radeon X1600 Pro (AGP)
RAM= 2 1gb DDR 400
Power Supply= Basic 400Watt at 12V
Monitor= LG L1933

I decided to purchase a GeForce 8800 GT so that I could play games better.
I removed the old AGP card, and placed my 8800 (PCIx16) into its proper PCI slot (WHich on my motherboard is PCIx4, but every so called professional said that it would still run my new card, don't know for sure now or what).

After doing so I connected my VGA cord from my monitor into the DVI converter which came with 8800 (only has 2 DVI slots, no VGA), and into my 8800. After turning on the computer the only thing I could see on my monitor was "Power Saving Mode." That is all it would say and I could NOT enter the BIOS and windows didn't start. I then unplugged power from all internals with the exception of 8800 video card, motherboard and hard drive in an attempt to see if I didnt have enough power. Still same message on Monitor. I replaced 8800 with old video card, and it worked fine. Confused and curios, I searched many forums and called every Tech support line for answers (ASrock never answered about motherboard).
Most told me it was my power supply so I purchased BFG GS Series 650 Watt ATX12V power supply, more than needed. Still same problem only now my old Radeon X1600 makes Monitor say "Power Saving Mode." Curious on weather it was my monitor or even the DVI converter I, I hooked up my roommates BenQ monitor with its own DVI cable instead of VGA and converter, his Monitor also said Power Saving Mode.

So alas, my story is finished and was wondering if any could help my situation, Also wondering if my motherboard will even support my new video card, and how to get my old one to work if not. The only thing I have left to try (Dont have any extra matching motherboards lying around) is too return my 8800 and exchange it to see if it was just a bad card,

Any an all help would be much appreciated,

Thanks,
Asp103
(sorry for the rather long message, lol)

Default Re: Power Save Mode message after VideoCard install

Hi Asp103 - Welcome to PCHF!!

It could be the converter - but then your AGP card should work with the VGA cable. Try the doing the following.

Make sure only the AGP card is installed with the monitor connected with the VGA lead. Try clearing CMOS and see if the monitor works. To clear CMOS see below (from ASRocks Website) or refer to your motherboard manual:

Unplug the ATX power and remove the battery, use a metal material like paper clip to short the CLRCMOS1 soldering points or CLRCMOS2 jumpers for 3 seconds. After that, install the battery and plug the ATX power back to the motherboard.
Note: Please do not clear the CMOS right after you update the BIOS.

If it the monitor does work - go into BIOS. Under advanced you will see an option to set the Primary Graphics Adaptor. Change it PCIE. Save settings and reboot. Turn off PC, Install PCI express graphics card, hopefully it will now work. If it doesn't work then your adapter may be faulty.
