Default 19' Dell 1970FP Monitor Won't Turn On

My son has a Dell Dimension 5150 he purchased two years ago and is now out of warranty. The Dell 1970FP monitor that came with the PC stopped working. It will not turn on. Not sure whether it didn't turn on after shutting it down or if it went off while it was on. Took it for repair and was told that the off/on switch is part of a circuit board that is attached to a larger circuit board. Also, that these monitors are made of plastic, snap on and are not meant to be ever be opened again.
This sounds right? Are they just trying to sell us a new monitor?
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Lou

Lets cover the basics shall we, did he ever spill anything on the monitor? Have you tried a different power cable and/or a different outlet? Have you tried the same power cable on a different monitor? Is the power button askew (hanging out of it's hole or stuck in)? Has the monitor ever fallen off the desk (with today's lightweights you never know)? And finally, (we've all done it) has he been known to poke the screen to watch the LCD disfigure at the point of contact?

Hello LouG and welcome to PC Help Forum.

To be honest I would take it for a second opinion to another repair shop.

Then if they say similar thing to the first shop then it would be time to buy a new one.

If you have tried the usal of trying another power cable were possible as some cables are fitted to the monitor and some come seprate and need to be plugged into back of monitor.
Tried the monitor on another pc,tried diffrent electrical outlet then still no joy then I would asume it is broken.

But please get a second opinion before you even contemplate buying a new one.

Zachary and Jelly Bean, thank you for your responses.
I did not think of trying a different power cable but will do so.
No to the other comments. Didn't poke, spill on it, dropped, etc.
My son is 34 yrs. He dropped off the monitor yesterday when he came to see his mother.
I am just trying to help him out. Will try the other cable route. If that doesn't work, will try another repair facility.
Thanks again.
By the way, it is a nineteen zero seven monitor. Why does it show as twenty zero five?

Your welcome, try another repair shop if no joy with cables.

If it is broken then it could cost to much to repair and I would buy a new one.

Angry Re: 19' Dell 2005FP Monitor Won't Turn On

Tried my power cable on his Monitor and no joy.
Did notice that the power on/off button seems to be jammed or crooked.
Will try another shop but I think it is new monitor time.
Thanks guys.
