Default [Answered] Which is better? DVI-HDMI or DVI-DVI

Basically the title says it all, but I have a new computer with a DVI-D output and my monitor has both DVI-D and HDMI inputs. I was curious if there is any quality difference between the two. Right now I have it hooked up via VGA and it doesn't look the best so I am going to upgrade the cable, and I was just wondering if I should get a DVI to DVI cable or DVI to HDMI for the best quality. Thanks!

DVI and HDMI are exactly the same as one another, image-quality-wise. The principal differences are that HDMI carries audio as well as video, and uses a different type of connector, but both use the same encoding scheme, and that's why a DVI source can be connected to an HDMI monitor, or vice versa, with a DVI/HDMI cable, with no intervening converter box.

Hi jedi, you can buy a socket to convert DVI to VGA..It should be cheaper than buying cables,Not sure on price in USA,but they are under £4 in UK.This way your VGA port on your monitor would be actualy plugged into your DVI.In the future if you wished to dual monitor you could use the empty VGA port.

Just a thought this maybe a cheaper option.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion! , but I already have the socket that you are referring to and the quality is decent, but I think straight DVI to DVI would look better. Also if I ever need dual monitors, my video card already has 2 DVI ouputs, so I should be okay there. But thank you so much! I think that I will end up getting a DVI to DVI cable from HDMI Cable, Home Theater Accessories, HDMI Products, Cables, Adapters, Video/Audio Switch, Networking, USB, Firewire, Printer Toner, and more!. I have ordered cables from them before and they are about the cheapest place to get cables, and there cables are great quality! Thanks a lot everybody!
