Default Horizontal white line across bottom of laptop display

I have a white line running horizontally across the bottom of my laptop display. The line just appeared from nowhere after turning it on. It is about 1 1/2" from the bottom and about an 1/8" wide. I have not dropped, knocked or banged my laptop in any way. I have read up on other sites where people have had similar problems and most of them were saying that the screen is faulty and requires a new one, others suggested that wires could be loose but I don't really want to open it up if possible. My laptop is out of warranty and I am also skint so was hoping a new screen wouldn't be required! I have plugged the laptop into my lcd tv and the line does not appear so looks like its the actual laptop screen with the problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

What is displayed on the screen is a representation of what is in memory.
While it might be your screen, you could also have a memory (RAM) problem.
This link will take you to a MemTest - MemTest download and review - RAM reliability tester from SnapFiles.

Follow the instructions.
Run it for at least 24 hours. The longer the better.
You can continue to use your computer while it's running.

If there is not problem, then it will just continue to run until you stop it.

The test found no errors. Do you not think that it is going to be either a fault with the screen or a loose connection seeing as it displays ok on an external LCD screen (s video)?

This may sound a simple solution, but my screen has an auto-reset option within the manual push-button settings, which will automatically adjust the screens' position, so that it is perfectly centered.
Do you have such a function ?

My screen doesn't have manual buttons on the front. Tried adjusting different properties of my screen through control panel but nothings helped.

had a look around for this problem and it seems you may have a burnt out resistor in your screen which is repairable, as it works on another screen its unlikely to be your graphics card.
