Default [Answered] Laptop Screen/Data Issue!

Not positive if this is the correct forum as I did not see a "Laptop" forum. So I apologize in advance if you need to move this.

Without further a due: My sister for some reason picked up her laptop by the screen. Not sure how come, but she did. The screen snapped off the hinge thus rupturing the cords and essentially break the laptop. The screen is just white now and obviously the laptop is now unusable.

Taking it to a repair place the options seem to be: Replace the screen for about $250 dollars, or get the data off of the HDD (there is important data that needs to be saved) for $350.

So I come here asking: Is there anyway for me to be able to rescue the data myself without such a high price point? Maybe I shouldn't try as I wouldn't know how to do it without a screen. (Without setting up a network and whatnot).

So anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

- Maizon

Hi Maizon, one option would be to dismantle the laptop, remove the hard drive, place it into a caddy like this one> 2.5" USB Laptop SATA Hard Drive Caddy HD Enclosure Case on eBay, also, Hard Drive Caddies Enclosures, Drives Storage, Computing (end time 16-Feb-08 22:15:00 GMT)
or this one if it isnt SATA>2.5" USB 2.0 Laptop IDE Hard Drive HD Caddy Enclosure on eBay, also, Hard Drive Caddies Enclosures, Drives Storage, Computing (end time 16-Feb-08 23:00:00 GMT) plug it into another pc, basically turn it into and external HDD and remove the data, a lot cheaper than $350!

So if I were to take it out and make it an external, the OS on the HDD wouldn't conflict with the computer that I would be plugging it into?

Thanks so much for the help!

Yes, much cheaper

No it wont conflict, it would show the OS files on the drive but as you are not booting off the extenal drive the files are `inactive` for want of a better word
