Default No image...Hear sounds

Alright so I think this could be the same issue that Wingman 36 posted just a few posts down, but I want to just make sure. Especially since each case could be a little different.

So i've got a 19" CRT Viewsonic UltraBrite A90f+ monitor. Always leave it on, however this morning I went to it and it had gone black and wouldn't turn back on. So I turned off the computer, monitor and started from a fresh boot up. The same thing, the monitor comes on, it has a green light, the PC is on, yet it is still only a black screen. I can hit enter and log into the PC, I hear the XP loading sounds just like normal just the screen is black when according to the green light on the monitor it should be on. It also doesn't show any "signal not detected" or anything like that.

I hooked up another tower to the monitor and it did the same thing, so I figure its a monitor issue and not a graphics card related issue. Or anything inside the tower that is.

HOWEVER: So with my above testing, I figured it was totally dead. Well I had just left the monitor on (green light, black screen) plugged into the computer. It finally came back to life (showing the logon screen) about 5-10 minutes after be on and plugged in to the system. Very odd.

So does this mean maybe it is slowly dieing and on its last legs or what? Its like it picked up the signal, but took 5-10 minutes to react to that signal.

Thanks in advance for the help!

This is alittle odd, most times it either works or it dont. I am betting its on its last legs and it is a monitor issue. If you were having vid issues you would get a signal not detected message on the monitor and the light would turn amber.
Did you notice if the connectors were tightly fitted ? Any bent pins?

No, the pins on the VGA connector are just fine. Not bent at all really, which makes it very strange.

So far since its come back on, it hasn't had anymore issues so i'm not really sure. Though the monitor is only about either 5 or 6 years old. Obviously thing fail at all sorts of different times but its just all so strange.

Thanks for your input!

This issue you are having is exactly like an issue one of my customers is having and I set up a service call for on Monday. I am taking another monitor with me and a vid card just in case, but I feel this is a monitor issue.......

In the computer world, everything is strange

Sometimes you just cant explain why they act like they do, you just move on
