Default Can't View Dark Colours Properly on Screen

Hi,

Whenever I watch movies and a dark background appears, the dark colour has a very wierd blurred effect, like a thermal image and I can't view that part of the movie properly. All the other colours in the movie appear fine.

I have tried watching different movies and used different players but they all react the same when showing dark backgrounds i.e. night shots etc. There is no problem viewing these colours in other applications such as Word - the problem only occurs when watching movies.

Are these Factory DVD's --or homemade ?
What Monitor/Video Card/ Video Player software are you using ? (Windows Media? Winamp? Real ?) it is probably a codec problem-- but the rest should be known/checked out.

It happens when using factory and home dvds and also when viewing videos on utube.com etc.

My monitor is flatscreen - LG FLATRON L19155.
The video adapter is RADEON 9600 Series.

I'm using Windows Media player and VLC Media Player and both of them have the same problem.

OK-- That would be a Flatron 1915- S(ess) it took me a while
There are several things to try-
1) if your other video is normal-- I would try reinstalling your video-card drivers--
2) double-check your Video cables-- the manual for that unit suggests using a screwdriver to fasten if necessary
3 make sure your video settings are at "true color" (24-bit or higher)
there is also a "control-lock" setting-- so that nobody can accidentally change things to incorrect levels.
the liink below is to that model's manual.

LG Electronics Online

It would aslo be a good idea to review your radeon's settings

If all fails-- then you are probably looking at a dying monitor...according to that website monitors are 3-years warranty-- so you know
