[Answered] 'CRT TV as Monitor' not working - HELP!
Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D505 Laptop with INTEL(R) EXTREME GRAPHICS 2 FOR MOBILE... this has TV as monitor options. My problem is that I can't get my CRT TV to work at all. I'm using the correct 7 pin TV-out adapter from my laptop, this coupled to a 3x RCA (2x audio, 1x video) cable with the standard european SCART male plug connected to the EXT 1 or EXT 2 on the TV. These input points work, as my current but crappy DVD player plays through them.
I have played around with the display settings etc. on the graphics interface, but I only get a plank screen, I do get some audio 'cracks' from the TV when I try to apply new settings, so there is some signal getting through.
The CRT is an oldish 'Phillips Blackline S it has a S-VHS out socket, so I guess it can't be that old'... the DVD player signal gets through and it is newer than my computer.
Can anybody help? Do we need specific drivers for different TV's?.... help!
I'd first try to disconnect all the sound cables from the inputs on the TV, they could be interfering with the S-Video signal. S-Video is not designed to transfer sound so you will want to take that from your sound card if you want the sound to come out of the TV speakers. A headphone to RCA stereo adaptor should do the trick there.
Hi welcome to the forum Tip you will have to set you TV to NTSC or PAL to match the out put of your graphics card. You can do this on most TV's with the remote.

Hi Madmatt2006, Thanks for you quick reply! It appears my TV doesn't have the NTSC or PAL options.... My graphics card does have 'Video Standard' NTSC 443, M & J. Also PAL B, D, G, H, I, M, N options and I have tried them all... any other suggestions?

Hi double_a_ron. Thanks for you prompt responce! Sounds like you know a thing or two about these matters. I would like to clarify some things about my set-up... There are no audio cables to or from the TV, Just the singnal cable from the wall, the EXT 1 or 2 when I have the cable from my PC attached and the power cable. As far as I understand it, the 7 pin TV cable has Video & Audio bundled together (this plug has the red, white & yellow - 2x audio & 1x video RCA connections on the other end). I am pretty sure the S-VHS socket on the TV is signal out only, as it is banked with a headphones socket, and this I am not using.... Do you have any other suggestions? I hope you can still help.
Ok so from the card's output you have the 7-pin connection which then goes to an RCA out? If so, I recommend using that, plug it in to your EXT1 and make for certain that you set the TV to use the signal from the input you're using. You would do this using "input select" or something to that effect, it might even be buried somewhere in your TV's OSD.
