Default Grayscale problem

I bought this monitor a few months ago, it's a Westinghouse 22" LCD( LCM-22w2) and it looks fine most of the time except when displaying any sort of grayscale.

This is what it looks like:

I'm pretty sure it's a monitor problem, as I never noticed it before with my CRT. I suppose it could be a graphics card problem but I'm not sure, that's why I'm here.

So if it is a monitor problem, surely there has to be some sort of way I can fix it? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Na, you are able to take a printscreen of it, which rules out your monitor. You may not have noticed it on your last monitor, normally due to your contrast and brightness settings.

It looks to me, like you don't have your graphics card set to true colour. Right click on your desktop, and go to Properties. Click on the Settings tab and change your color quality to Highest (32bit) or True Colour.

It's set on Highest (32-bit).

You have the latest drivers? May be worth testing in another PC if you can, as this could also be a graphics card problem.

Can you see this colour table properly? (printscreen if you need to).

Is there any chance you could repost those as bitmap (.bmp) images so that I can see them more clearly. These are compressed so I may not be seeing exactly what you see.

I've attached another colour map in a different format. See if you can narrow your problem down to a particular image format. It's rare for web sites to use true bitmap format. You will normally find .jpg and .gif files used as backgrounds and images. You can sometimes see imperfections with images that try to use a lot of colour, but not normally quite as severe.

I'm not convinced that the greyscale problem you found in the game is the same problem, as a light shader is used here. You can clearly see that the image itself is perfect, but it looks like it was rendered poorly, or the colour was reduced. It's possible that this could be due to the game egnine itself, or some settings within the game.

I think it's best to focus on image format's first and rule out every possibility one at a time. It's still possible this could be a hardware issue (however least likely, since you are able to see some greyscale).

I uploaded them in JPEG form, they're showing up as JPEGs for me, but you say you see them at BMP's? That's odd...

Do you know a site that would be a good host so that you could see them at a higher resolution?
