Default Out Of Frequency Range

Hi, I appologize if this has been answered elsewhere in the forum. I searched but nothing came up.

I am running 4 systems through a manual KVM switch box that is connected to a new 22" LCD monitor ( Megavision MV220 ).

Everything was working fine until a few weeks ago when I had to do a registry restore on my main system from a previous backup and I noticed the desktop icons where looking a little larger.

I went into change the settings and I thought I changed them to 1024 X 768.
The LCD screen suddenly turned black and displayed the message " out of frequency range "

Fortunately I had the ctr monitor available so I hooked up the main system back to it and went to check on the settings ..... they are set to 1024 X 768

I've tried various ways to get this system to work with the lcd monitor through the switch box but no matter what I try I still get the error message.

Yet if I connect up the system directly to the LCD monitor it works.

I've just checked the setings on 2 of the other systems that are working through the switch box with the lcd monitor.

The Dell is set at 1152 X 864 at 75.3 HZ
the Compaq is set to 1024 X768 at 60 HZ

The E-machines which is my main system is set to 1024 X 768 60HZ and has the choice to change this to 60, 70, 72, 75, 85 HZ

any help would be appreciated,

thanks.

Im guessing that the system where you get this on is the Dell. You would need to change that 75.3 Hz to 70 or 60 if 70 doesn't work. It means that the monitor cannot handle a frequency that high. The frequency is the Hz which stands for Hertz.

Hi EagleAmerican

Im guessing that the system where you get this on is the Dell.
No.... as I stated the problem lies with my main system which is the E-machines one.

Everything was working fine until a few weeks ago when I had to do a registry restore on my main system from a previous backup and I noticed the desktop icons where looking a little larger.
The E-machines which is my main system is set to 1024 X 768 60HZ and has the choice to change this to 60, 70, 72, 75, 85 HZ
That's what I don't understand..... the e-machines is set exactly the same as the Compaq.... so it should work ( it does work if I connect it directly to the monitor )

I've even tried changing the cables around on the back of the switch box but it doesn't make any difference...

I also contacted Tiger Direct which is where I purchased the monitor from but all they did was pass me onto the Monitor supplier who was no help whatsoever. I phoned him a couple of times and he was supposed to call me back after speaking with the tech guys but he never did... ( note to anyone reading this, think twice before buying anything from Tiger Direct as they do not have a tech support team available)

You mention "Yet if I connect up the system directly to the LCD monitor it works" sound like you KVM has the problem so I'd say it is not related to the PC or screen. Do you have another KVM you can try?

Yes I had thought it may be the KVM box but strange that all 4 cables and connections work with the 3 other systems connected through it, ( forgot to mention I have a laptop working through the box too )

This is one of those problems that just doesn't make any sense..... especially when all 4 systems were working for weeks after first connecting the new monitor.

I don't have a spare switch box and I'm reluctant to waste money on buying a new one when that one may not work either.

At the moment I have 3 of them going through the box connected to the LCD and the main system connected to my old monitor with just the mouse and keyboard cables from the e-machines connected to the box.... that way at least I can control everything from one mouse and keyboard.... just means I have to use 2 monitors.

I just wish this had happened to one of my older systems rather than my main one

The LCD monitor has 3 ways to connect to it VGA, DVI & Component so I tried buying a VGA to Component Video cable hoping that would work but then I found out my Video Card doesn't send the component video signal out through the VGA socket

I started looking at new video cards with DVI outputs but there are so many to chose from.... and there is nothing wrong with the one I have as far as video picture quality goes (for my needs anyway )

I had an idea to buy a 2 way auto switching cable and connect one cable to the main output of the KVM switch box and the other to the e-machines system..... do you think that would work ?
