Default [Pending] LCD monitor

Ive just bought an LCD tv/monitor and have linked up my laptop using a vga cable. When it was first connected it was working fine untill I went to play a video. On my laptop the video was being shown but on the LCD tv, windows media player was open and was playing but there was no image. Any ideas why this is?. . . Now I have a different problem as nothing is being shown on the LCD screen apart from my windows background (no icons or cursors). I know I have to solve the 2nd problem first, but any ideas on any of them.

Cheers

Rhys O

My first thought is driver.
Do you have the right drivers installed?
What verson of Windows are you using?

I am using XP professional. How do I know if I have the correct drivers installed? . . I asume they are fine. There are no messages in devide manager saying otherwise. It was working fine a few months ago but just seemed to stop working.

If it was working as you say, then suggest you delete the device from the Device Manager. That will force Windows to go out and rediscover the device and reinstall the drivers. You may have to tell Windows to add new hardware, or reboot. Either one should work.

You probably have a comflict between the two drivers.
First, I would delete the default monitors.
That might clear the path for the PnP drivers.
After deleting the default monitors (both of them), reboot.
Then check to see if Windows recreated them again.
If it didn't, then you should be good to go.
If it did, then I'd delete all of them and reboot.

Good Luck...
