I'm really not sure what to suggest.

Is it a DVD you're trying to play or a normal video.

Could you try installing VLC Player and try playing the video on there this will help rule out the possibility of it being a problem with wmp.

also, does the video play on your notebook screen when you're trying to play it on the TV?

It is a video file that I have downloaded but the same happens while watching dvds. It shows it on my laptop screen but on the LCD the windows media player is playing but no image being shown.
