Default sreen is now often staying blank on start up

For the last 2 days in a row when i started up my pc i have had monitor stay blank even when i could hear the pc was running. There seemed to be an attempt in that it flashes from black to lighter black :P but then it did nothing else. so i turned of pc and turned it on again. This time is worked however on day 2 of this problem i needed to turn on and off the pc 4 times. One of the failed attempts is got to the xp screen and then went blank.

I am concerned about this issue, please can you help.

Hi joker, did you update or change your graphics card or graphics card driver recently? Have you made any other significant changes to the PC prior to this problem occurring?

Just a quick suggestion before i head for bed, check the graphics card is well seated in its slot, it may or may not have a screw attaching it to the chassis of the pc, if the screw is missing replace it. next double check all the connections from monitor to pc and power to monitor as well. i hate giving out little checklist like these but sometimes it can just be as simple as that.

No all connections are fine, this is only a problem at start up or if the computer is in sleep mode (both require up to several attempts to get images back on screen) and not during the use of the pc. once i have successfully got the pc running with monitor ok there are no problems, no flickering no going blank, it's all at start up.
