Default [Resolved] Monitor issue

I've got a problem. I'm a newb, please keep that in mind.

Someone I know has an old piece of **** IBM PC and a TFT monitor. The monitor isn't working. When I start both the PC and the monitor it shows nothing but "Mode not supported". I've used an old CRT monitor and it works just fine but this new TFT monitor doesn't work. They both connect through a regular monitor video cable like this one:

Does anyone have a clue what the problem might be?

(EDIT) Problem solved.

Hello Gessie and Welcome to PC Help Forum..

Two things come to mind right away. Have you tried installing the drivers for the TFT monitor? How old is the IBM? The video card may not be compatible. The older legacy cards had a very narrow operating range.

TTFN!

Thank you for the reply. The PC is ancient but that doesn't matter, problem solved.

I'm embarrassed about the solution: There was a switch on the monitor which I hadn't turned on (it was well hidden, but still ).

Sorry for the spam.

LOl Gessie, oh well.

Marked as Resolved. That is not spam, it is fine for you to resolve a problem yourself even if it was a bit embarassing like that

We've all done that.... tear your hair out for 4 hours on a silly problem -- only to discover the cable's not quite fully seated
or there's a "hidden" switch
or a bent pin in a connector
that's how you learn-- and why forums exist-- you benefit from someone else's mistakes...saves you time/frustration/money?
