Default So i just bought this 22inch TFT LCD.........

just bought a 22inch LCD and everything was going fine. Connected it via VGA and set it to the native res (1680 X1050) with a crappy old vid card NVIDIA 64mb (i think) Geforce2 MX 100/200.

Problem #1:
i installed an antivirus program and had it run a system scan after a restart. after loging back in i noticed the res changed. tried to re-set it but couldnt find the native res in the settings. i was like WTF did it go? i updated the drivers but still couldnt find it. i still dont know how to get it back in the settings. i read somewhere that i could add it through customizing it, but i dont know how to do that. Im just hanging on by setting it through the closest res which is (1600 X 1200) and using the auto adjust feature.

Problem #2:
after that i started noticing a couple of columns filled with horizontal lines on the screen. i have no idea how or why this is happening. i dunno if its my video card or the lcd which is f@cked up.

pics of monitor:

pic 1: pic2:

If anyone can help me understand whats going on, i would appreciate it. Is it the monitor or video card? I already tried to update the video card's driver. Thanx alot for any help! if i missed any spec, ill gladly post it.

specs:
vidcard-NVIDIA 64mb (i think) Geforce2 MX 100/200.
OS- winxp
RAM- 2g SDRAM
power- 300 or 350
monitor- X2gen 22" Wide
5ms 1000:1 500 cd/m²
1680 x 1050 WSXGA+

i just tried to hook up my old monitor which is a crt. everything looks fine. i really think setting it to the monitor's native resolution would solve the problem, but thats the catch.....i cant find the native in the settings. anyone know how i can get it to be there?

1024x768 would likely be a good place to start. Then progressively go upward and see what looks best. Just because it's what the monitor reccomends isn't nessasaraly what your card may support. Otherwise, if my next suggestion does not work, you may as well get a new video card.

One other thing that I could think of is that maybe your refresh rate is set to high for your monitor. For a CRT, 75-85 was best because it was not as hard on your eyes as a lower setting was. A flat screen nees no more than 60. In fact, my flat screen has simmalar problems when it's any higher than 60
To change, right click on your desktop, choose Properties. Click the Settings tab, press Advanced. Choose the Monitor tab. Click the dropdown menu and select 60 hertz.

Oh if your concerned about the blank areas along the side on PCHF, that's normal for widescreen. Happens on a lot of web sites.

thanks for your input. i tried 1024x768 res and it looks fine. i just prefer the native which i tried already but strangely couldnt find it after the restart. if the problem really is my video card, then how how will i know which video card supports he native res that i want? does each card specify supported resolutions?

ps. oh yeah my refresh rate was always set on 60 hertz.

Hi soysauce.

All new AGP video cards (which you will need) Supports native res of my monitor (1920x1200).

I'm inclined to believe that it's the video card just can't handle that res. The fact that it did for a short period of time isn't all that good. Your video card is fairly old now, and i'd suggest upgrading it.

FYI: You've missed around 6 series of nvidia cards...and about 50 releases of the cards.
