Default Color problem and flashing/staticy image

Hi all,
I've got a problem with my acer al1912 monitor. I've had the monitor for about 2 years now, and for the past few months, the monitor has been messing up on and off. The colors get very high contrast, sort of like old 8 bit video games. This is usually followed by static of the image and eventually parts or the whole screen start flashing. I've tried tested my computer with my roomate's monitor, which works fine, so this is definitely a monitor problem. I know that this model was a cheap monitor, so it could be that this is just the monitor telling me it has had enough, but just wanted to see if it's a problem that could be fixed.
Thanks for your help.

Hi glashopa, welcome to the PCHF.

Most video glitches can be atributed to the monitor or video card, or the cable connecting the 2. As most of the cables are unremovable...this means new monitor.

However, can you give me a brief description of what you're doing when it happens? Or how often?

Hi Garhar,
A lot of the reason why I'm stumped is that it doesn't seem like I'm doing anything in particular when the monitor starts acting up. I usually am only using the computer for minor things like web browsing and small amounts of gaming. Typically the color is usually off at some point during the day and the flashing occurs maybe once every few days.
Thanks for your help.
