Default crt monitor problem

Hi Guys!I have a bit of a problem with my 6 years old philips monitor. It's been working fine until recently, when i turned on my pc only the cpu would run but the monitor won't start , power button would remain amber. If i push the restart button a few times the monitor somehow would work but the same problem would occur over and over again. The monitor would always turned on in the end but only after a combination of restarts and poweroffs/powerons but i did noticed that the poweroffs/powerons seems to work better. The restarts seems to work only in the beginning.By the way after the monitor is working it would stay that way without any signs of problem.I don't know if this would help but my graphic card is a used tornado 128mb geforce4 mmx.And one more thing! The monitor sometimes would emit something like a high frequency pitch sound but it would last only for a while.Any help or comments would be deeply appreciated.

Hi dash

CRT's usually have a pretty good lifespan.
Do you see any adverse colours on the screen, a predominance of a certain colour perhaps.
It may well be that the graphics card is faulty.

yeah. alot of older crt monitors, and crt televisions, when the picture tube starts to fail, it will emit a high frequency sound. My grandfather has a tv that is rarely works anymore, but the picture is totally screwed up, and the sound is like a siren. I would say it is the picture tube.

Hi Guys!Sorry for the late reply. The monitor does not have any color problems. It's working quite fine.Today when i turned on my pc surprise!surprise! the monitor worked without a hitch ,no reboot or poweroffs. But the high frequency sound is still there although more subtle.I agree with you guys,it's probably either the monitor or the graphic card going bad cause the rest of the pc seems to have no problems.I'll try sending it for diagnostic at my local pcshop if it's get worse. Thanks anyway for the replies guys!

It may be a picture tube problem, but since it has a good picture when it does work, id say the high voltage power supply is going out. Ive never seen a graphics card cause this, but all that means is, that ive never seen it. lol Maybe try hooking the monitor to another computer and see if it still does it.
