Default New gaming monitor - What to buy?

Ok ive been stuck with the same old CRT "packard bell" *shivers* monitor for the past 6 years. Ive been constanly upgrading my comptuer with new graphics cards and new parts to make it one of the most powerful i could, but what use is it if my monitor cannot show me the crisp graphics used in games?

Thus the solution. Buy a new monitor. But what should i get?

Now there is two items which have caught my eye:

the Samsung SM970P - 19" -1000:1 6ms montior costing about £300.

and the Samsung LE23R71BX Flat Panel TV - oh yes thats 23" TV . 2000:1 HD ready TV which is ment to have an inbuilt thing for games. However i cant find the responce time i think its 8ms thou. price - £450

If non of the above what should i get? surgestions away since its my x-mas present and i need to let people know what i want .
