Default Problems with Dell 19" E196FP monitor

Hi everyone,
I have the following problem:
A couple of weeks ago my newly bought monitor stopped displaying [yes, it did display what it doesn't display noww] anything that is happening before Windows XP is loaded. Ther is no splash screen, I cannot enter BIOS because it simply does not display anything before the OS is loaded. It works perfectly well once the OS is loaded but shows nothing before. The only meassage it displays is:

"Cannot Display This Video Mode
Optimum resolution 1280 X 1024 60Hz"

This message and its meaning is presented on the Dell Website:
Documentation

I have been in touch with Dell support people and tried:
+checking the connections - all fine
+plugging a different digital monitor - this works fine ie. it displays everything the Dell e196fp monitor doesn't
+uninstalling the video card

+changing displays, resolutions, updating graphic card drivers
I have also spoken with others for whom the situation is a total enigma.

I am sincerely asking you for help with this matter.
Kind regards,
+changing refresh rates,
+trying to change the resolution of the boot/splash screen -but of course one cannot do that, there is no possiblity or application that will do that.

The courious thing is - I tested the monitor on another system and it works perfectly well. I guess the monitor and the pc anre not compatible - and I am lucky to experience that!

I have tried so many things that now I believe it will be a challenge for more experienced computer specs.

Hello kilofeq, welcome to the PC Help Forum.

Might i ask what video card you have in that nice dell machine of yours?

Hi upgrader764 & GaRHaR, thanks for the welcome,
Well actually only the monitor is dell. The graphic card is ATI Radeon 9800 256MB. I have reinstalled it, made sure it is well fitted into the AGP port, updated drivers yesterday... hmm what else can I do?
Looking forward to being helped.
Thanks

Hi kilo,

are you able to test the video card in another computer?

Also, what size/model power supply are you using?

hi again,
The power supply I am using is 500W, and it was bought in May/June 2006. I guess that's good enough. As far as testing the v.card is concerned, I do not have a possibility to ttest it on another computer. Well, to tell you the truth, I am a bit suspicious of the video card, I don't know why.

Just now when I switched on the computer, right after the system has been loaded, a blue screen appeared - you know the blue screen with ugly white letters - the message was something like 'there is a system error, dumping physical memory, if this is the first time this screen appears restart the computer, if it appears again check if hardware is installed properly etc'

I changed the v.card before summer as well, because the other collapsed - then I changed the power supply because I believed it did not power properly. I wonder whether my problems might have their roots in the mainboard, or is it the video card?

I must repeat that:
2 days ago I tested my computer with another monitor and everything worked fine - no blank screens, all good!
I also put the dell monitor to another system and it worked good!

This is a mystery for me.
Still looking forward to being helped.

Hi kilo...

I don't suppose you got the stop error number when the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) appeared did you?

And if your monitor works on another computer, I highly doubt it's that.
