If you have the cash then why not go 16:9 - I would, if I was buying a new screen

WWIIIIIIIDDEEEEEEE SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEN!

Once you go wide, you'll never go....bide? *shrug*

Yes, widescreen is definatly the win.

Compatability with games? Most new games support wide screen, and even older games look decent in them. Most monitors have the option to "stretch" to the full width of the screen (16:10/9 depending on what monitor) or to have it at 4:3 (standard monitor ratio).
It defaults to stretched.

Never heard of HannsG...do you have a link?

I always chose Samsung over anything else...with the acception of my current monitor (Dell 24")...it uses the Samsung 244t LCD panel...and was $600 cheaper.
