Default TFT vs LCD TV?

I am thinking about upgrading from my 21" CTR monitor to maybe a 19" TFT or a 20" LCD TV.

I use my pc in the bedroom and was thinking about having a monitor for my pc that seconds as a TV, i mostly use my pc for online gaming and 3D designing/rendering. i really dont know which would be best for me. im not right up on this type of thing .

Anyone got any suggestions or advise for me?

I have personally been using a couple of LG monitors recently and I was very impressed with the performance.

I guess you will need to decide what fits your budget but there are a number of things to consider;

1) Response Time - as low as possible (sub 10ms is standard now)
2) Connections - DSUB, DVI and SVGA are a minimum requirement.
3) Native resolution - as high as possible, so 1280 x 1024 is a minimum again
4) Contrast ratio - as good as you can get for the money you wish to spend

Other things you might like;

1) Tilt and swivel
2) Low power consumption
3) USB hub
4) Remote control

Hope this helps....

Hi Fazbear,

Hengis's points are correct. But I do disagree on the LG comment I know of the former companies they used to be and won't touch them for that reason...but...I do know for a fact, that Samsung make some of the best quality LCDs around..be it TV or TFT.

I'm personally running a Dell 24" wide screen TFT with a Samsung panel in it, and my previous LCD was a 17" samsung...you cannot go past samsung for image quality...it's just outstanding.

In regards to response times...you have to be careful as there is 2 different types...there is grey to grey, and black to black.

Black to black is the one you want to know and compare with each monitor...if it's grey to grey 8ms, it will mean about 16-18ms black to black (i think that's about right - it's coming from memory).

My 2 cents worth

Hey G...of course there are better out there than LG..Samsung being one of them (I have the 913n myself). I just popped that comment in there due to very recent experience
