Default Monitor randomly turns off

Hope someone can help me with this....
I play EQ2 a lot and at times during game play my monitor freezes and then it turns itself off, I have tried to unplug my monitor from the back and plug it back in but all i get is a self test screen and nothing else. I am using a crt monitor at the moment as this did seem to work ok after i had the same problem with an lcd one I started out with, this seems to be a randon thing and I can go weeks without any trouble.
Any help on this would be appreciated
Thanks

Howdy chips and welcome to PCHF,
Sorry for the logn delay in posting back PCHF staff is very good at answering questions very quickly.

Have you checked your Video card for dust and other bunnies? This seems more like an overheating gpu issue more than a monitor issue since this has happend twice.

Can you let us know what video card you are using?

Hey there chips, and welcome to the forums.

The best thing to do would be to open your PC and remove your graphics card. This is quite a simple process, simply remove the screws from the back of your case.
Open it up and locate the video card, should be easy to find because it is were your monitor will be connected.
Remove the screw that keeps your card in place and pull the card out. Get a can of compressed air and blow all over the card (especially the fan).

Then re-slot the card back into the machine, replace the screw and case cover and turn your machine on.

See if that helps, another thing I suggest is to download and install the latest drivers for your video card, you can get them from here:

Did you try downloading the latest drivers for your card?

Can you also run a scandisk and defrag on your computer > Go to the properties of your c:\ drive and click on tools. You will see both programs in there.
