Unhappy [Resolved] Monitor settings will not change

Hi everyone,

My laptop screen has suddenly decreased is color depth to 16bit, and it's screen size. It is a 1024 x 768 with high 16bit color. But it keeps going to 16bit on 600 x 800 screen and everything looks gritty and small. I have tried tweaking with the settings in Display to the correct settings but the changes will not take in effect after I restart. It also has somehow came up with two monitors when i go to the Display box. The problem is they are both the same and it has never shown two monitors to choose until now.

Help be appreciated please.. Thank you

Sounds to me like a corrupted video driver... on a laptop-- it's probably "onboard graphics"-- meaning you don't have a separate video-card-- the graphics are built into the motherboard. I'd go to the Manufacturer's website for help... (support section/downloads, etc) Try that first-- 85% of the time that will be the problem.

You didn't post a brand-name of your laptop-- so I can't give you links.

I luckily have a friend with an older Thinkpad-- so I've been through this...<sigh>

Their website is "as clear as mud" as they say.

If you go to this page... there is the IBM equivalent of Windows Update --they call it System Update.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...PDATE.html#DLP

SAVE THIS PAGE TO YOUR FAVORITES-- IT'LL BE EASIER TO FIND NEXT TIME

You must download and install this(System Update) first-- then-- they are going to update this system (someday) to System Update 2.0. You need to download/install the "support for software installer" ON THE SAME PAGE. You may have to reboot in between the 2 installs. I don't remember.

Once you have it installed it SHOULD be easy just double click the shortcut and it shoul be automatic from there.

Let us know how you make out

Okay... what OS are you running if it's windows 98 or above you can install this -- you need to install the Microsoft .NET framework.-- that means that the file system the "System Update" needs to run is not on your machine--Yuo can try windows update-- it will be in with the OPTIONAL updates. Choose "custom install "

Scroll down until you see the DotNET 1.x version. download/install it THEN GO BACK TO THE FIRST SITE & TRY AGAIN it should work now... let us know again.

ugh..for some reason my Internet Explorer does not want to load any kind of website. I went to do Windows Update and it wouldn't even load the page. Says something about connecting to 127.0.0.1 and windows update doesn't want to work with Firefox, they prefer IE.
