I just joined pchelpforum and while going through different postings I see that you pro's come up with answers to some really difficult postings. So far no-one has been able to give me a definite answer to this question.

I have an Envision monitor with built-in TV tuner. I also have a new HP computer with Media Center 2005 OS but without the TV tuner. Right now I connect my cable service directly to the monitor TV input. Doing it this way I get no benefit of being able to use the Media Center TV controls such as recording programs, etc.

HP recommends that if I add a TV tuner, I use an external USB TV tuner and not an internal TV tuner card because of compatibility issues.

Is there a way to use the TV tuner in my monitor as the external tuner? Can I wire into the monitor, go from the monitor to computer and then back to the monitor which is the way an external tuner would work, I think?

Interesting question you have there mate, to be honest I don't think it would be possible but I want to be 100% sure .

So could you post the exact make/model of your monitor for us so I can do some research.

It is an Envision monitor model number EN-8500. Their web site is www.envisionmonitor.com/support/faq.asp.

My computer is an HP Pavilion a1320n

Unfortunately there is no way that you can use the TV tuner that is built into the monitor as an "external tuner".
Basically there are no connections that would allow you to connect it to your machine.

The only way you will be able to use the Media Center controls is if you install a card on the actual computer, unfortunately that means you would have to purchase another TV tuner.
