Default [Fixed] Failure to Set Video Mode

Hey there, im new, i have recently reformatted my computer and i havent encountered any problems up until now. The system works mostly fine, however when i try to load any application that requires a "video mode", e.g. games etc. An error appears stating it "Failed to set video mode - resetting to defaults", however when it attempts to reload the game another error appears saying "The game has a minimum requirement of Directx 7.0 compatible hardware". Although i have installed Directx 9.0c and all other drivers seem to be up to date.

Hello to MeSelf.

Have you tried to re-install youre directx and motherboard and video drivers?

And have a look at "start > run > dxdiag" and have look at all the tabs to see if there are , in the "notes" boxes at the bottum , any problems reported.
Also try to run the test's on the display and sound tabs

Thanks, but, i did all the tests and directx found no problems...

I think it might have something to do with the monitor driver ( i have no idea what this is).

After reformatting my computer, i installed all of the latest patches off the microsoft website, once i had downloaded and installed them i found that my computer could only handle the lowest screen res and colour quality. I followed some vague instructions from the helper and ended up changing my monitor driver and my video driver. They work fine and my screen is back to normal although i dont think they are the right drivers for my computer.

Please help if you can, its a bit confusing and i think i might have just destroyed my computer somehow but im not sure.

btw, my monitor is a Dell E772p and the driver is a plug and play monitor...
I have searched for the correct E772p driver on the list it gives you but the closest is a E771p.

Im not really sure what any of this means but hopefully it is useful to you.
