Default Using cell phone as modem/provider

I have a new I-760 Samsung and a new Gateway laptop. The folks at verizon are telling me i can strap it to my phone for internet service. Any one have an idea how this is accomplished? The folks at verizon are stumped. They don't even have the proper software and cables for my phone yet. So I have no contacts in my new phone and have to carry my treo around for numbers still. Thanks Deon

You'd need a cable to connect the phone to the computer (or maybe bluetooth, not sure how well it would work though), and then set up the phone as a modem

I set my phone to modem and hooked up the usb. All it did was pick up the phone through active sync and that was it. It there a specific program I need or just change sopme settings. I'd like to figure this out soon so I can get the use and see if I want to keep the data feature on my phone.

Bugger me for the late reply, you can use either:

USBModem

or

PDANet to enable the modem feature on your laptop through your mobile phone as far as I've been able to read from other forums

I am doing this with Alltel now for about 4 months and it is working pretty good,,I had to purchase their program,it came with the data cable.
I sometimes have a prob with the connection slowing down,,I want to relate it to times when the tower is very busy,(i am in a Rural area, only 1 tower in the area) I purchased a booster for my cdma signal and it helped a lot
when all is well it works as well as my DSL line i have at another location a few miles away.

The charges for using the phone/modem are $ 25.00 / mo.(unlimited).the CD software was a one time $69.95... I could have purchased the wireless network card for $80.00 and paid $ 69.95 / mo..I figured I would try the cheap route and I am very happy with it..I use it a "lot"..10 to 15++hrs. a week..You can either call forward your phone,or if you do recieve a call you can talk for a bit, hang up and the internet connection picks right up and away you go again. The Alltel software also has the utilitie for sync'in your phone book and thingies I haven't tried yet! LOL
Deoncollins69....I have been purchasing my phone cables off e-bay..i just switched to a Razr2 v9m and of course none of my Razr V3m stuff would work...New data cable cheap if you do some shoppin!
hope this helps....Slim
