Default Multiple RAM cards = crash

Hi, i have this weird memory problem where if both of my compatible DDR3 2gb RAMs are used it would cause my computer to crash. This crash corrupts important OS files preventing me next time when i reboot from entering windows or repairing it. The only solution when this does occur was to format the partition containing my OS. This is a recent problem, i have been using these two memory cards for a year now, they are the same modules hence compatible with each other.

I did the following when this problem occurred:

1. Mem test on each RAM individually
2. Mem test using different RAM slots
3. Mem test both RAMs together.

The only errors i got on mem test is when both memory cards were present. So i removed one of my RAM cards and all is working fine.

My question here is, is this a problem from the motherboard? One of the RAM cards? If anyone has experienced this before and knows what is causing this i would be really grateful if you would tell me, thanks.

Hello and welcome.

http://www.pchelpforum.com/memory/58...nload-run.html

Firstly test a single stick in the slot near the CPU and run memtest.

Then remove that stick and test the next stick running memtest.

If you get no errors it appears not to be the slot or the RAM.

If you test the sticks individualy in the next slot and run memtest do you get errors?

Are you able to test the RAM in another computer that is compatible with DDR3?

What is the make and model of your mainboard?

Thanks for the fast response.

I have done that already, i ran memtest86+ using each RAM sticks individually on the only two available slots i have on my mainboard. I am using a laptop, mainboard model = Intel PM45, RAM module = 2xPatriot 2GB PC3 - 8500 CL7 DDR3 1066 SoDimm. I ran memtest using 5 different combinations:

Slot 1 - RAM 1 = Pass
Slot 1 - RAM 2 = Pass
Slot 2 - RAM 1 = Pass
Slot 2 - RAM 2 = Pass
Slot 1&2 - RAM 1&2 = Error

The only error i got is when both RAM sticks were being used. This is really confusing, what could the problem possibly be?

My laptop is a Clevo M860TU. It has a P9500 cpu, 9800GTS graphic card, Intel PM45 mainboard and a 2xPatriot 2GB PC3 - 8500 CL7 DDR3 1066 SoDimm. I cant think of any other relevant specs.
