Default Vista 64 and 4GB Corsair Dominator 1066 RAM

Good Morning Guys,

I am yet again in need of guidance I have the above memory and OS.
My issues is that with both of these stick installed (4GB) Vista takes a very long time to boot and is very sluggish to use, programs are maxing the CPU to 100% the whole time.
When I use just one stick, 2GB, the system boots fine and uses normal CPU usage.
In XP both stick work fine together. I have tested both sticks independently in Vista and both appear to be functioning on their own ok.
I also had horrendous issues trying to install Windows 7 and believe this may be another symptom of this problem.
To confirm have been using this set of RAM for about a year, it identifies all RAM while posting. I have no issues on XP 32bit and have never had performance issues off the RAM while gaming, watching DVD's etc.
Can anyone suggest an explanation?
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

Hi

Try this:
  • Run>msconfig (as administrator)>Boot>Advanced options...
  • Change the number of processors to the number you have
  • Tick on "Maximum memory
You must reboot your system for the changes to take effect

Vista provides its own troubleshooting tools:

Control Panel>Performance Information and Tools>Advance Tools> Performance issues

See if there are any entries there.
You can see on the attachments, that on my system the driver for X-Fi Platinum is causing a 95 seconds delay (that's what you get for a 199 € Sound Card...)

BTW: See on my system configuration that I also use Dominator from Corsair.
I cannot say if the issues are related as by the time I installed the Dominator modules:
  • A new driver was available from Creative
  • Numerous updates were available from Microsoft
A few years back-when I was younger, that is...-I would have started installing previous drivers from Creative to find out when/what the issue started, but now, I have to help my son fix his model airplane, attend my daughter's dance show, help clean up the house .... ...you get the picture don't you?

Thanks George.

Have done your first suggestion, set the max cpu's and memory, rebooted. It is now running fine with 4GB. However when I go back into advanced boot options it still says 2048 in the memory box, is this normal? My Comp says 4.00GB

Well, I have to clarify some things:
As you can see on that Microsoft site, that limit is for troubleshooting.

Uncheck it now and reboot, to see if all is OK. If yes, leave it unchecked.

Uncheck that box again but if the same issue occurs where it is really sluggish then re-check and increase the number of maximum memory

Also if you are trying to install windows 7 1 suggestion could be that you run it on the single stick 2GB while installing and then add the 4 GB back in

I cant see you having troubles doing that

Let me know if that helps
