Question RAM issues

Hi, my friend pointed me to these forums and well im having some issues.

I recently reformatted my computer, after that i noticed after a week has gone by from reformatting that my ram has only 2 gigs of ram. but physically i have 4 gigs of ram in my computer. I know that sometimes you can't see all of your ram. Before i reformatted i know that i had 3074 ram (or something like that), but after reformatting i only have 2046 ram or physical membory. I tried taking all of my ram out and make sure there is no dust, i searched on google for my type of problem but i have not seen anything like mine. When i start my computer up it sais something about going into CMOS but when i press the delete key and go into that blue menu screen with all the options like cmos features, etc etc etc. I dont know what to do, I think there is a way in there to like ... somehow troubleshoot your ram or like detect the rest of the ram in there.

I've uploaded my dxdiag to see if that could be some use for you guys.

Hi, and welcome to the PCHelpForum.

I'll mark your thread as [Open] to encourage the clever ones to help you out.

I do have a question though: What version of windows have you installed, especially if its an x64 version or not. I couldn't make that up from the DxDiag.txt file.

If you had 4GB physically installed before, and you could only see about 3gigs of it, that means you are running a 32bit operating system. There are a few things that could cause the system to see only 2GB. First, does the BIOS see all of it, or just 2?

You should be able to go into BIOS, and somewhere, (depending on your motherboard, where) try hitting F9, and see if it brings up an information window, that says the physically installed memory. If not, go into CMOS settings, and it should say under extended memory how much.

i went into the cmos feature and under extended memory it gives me 4 gigs im guessing becaues i saw a 4 and a couple other random numbers after it.

but when i go into dxdiag it sais 2046 of ram and when i press down ctrl+alt+del and go into performances it also sais 2046 of physical memory.

so im using half the ram i should be using. :/

Well, with vista 32 bit you should be able to use at least 3GB, 3.25 under ideal circumstances. Let me get back to you
