hi can somone help me out here? a friend of mine recently gave me her dell latitude c600 to upgrade becuz her drive was going bad and her memory is low, so i went online and checked the recommended stuff to purchase bought both the drive and memory. i replaced the drive(took some hard work)but that side is now working but the memory now is my problem. the memory i got is p133 and the laptop has a 2*pc100 @ 256mb running currently. each time i take out one of the pc100 to try the pc133 it tells me some error and that i should press f1 to shutdown. i then took out the 2 pc100 memory and tried the new memory alone but the machine didnt start up so im wondering if anything could b done before taking back the memory?

Here's what Crucial says about your memory: Computer memory upgrades for Dell Latitude C600 Series Laptop/Notebook from Crucial.com - so, unless you can boot up past the beeps, you've got to suspect the RAM. Try blowing in and around the dimm slots just in case some dust is in there...

This system takes a max of 512mb with 2 slots and the problem you are having is with the chip density. You need to purchase PC133 16x8 chipset module, or go with a PC100 16x8 module. Yes those are a bit more expensive than the standard PC133 module. I would recommend you to visit a quality ram supplier on the web to let them help you or use their website to pick up the correct ram. Try www.diahmemory.com or www.crucial.com
