If the hard disk itself isn't damaged, it may be possible to "slave" it to another computer as a 2nd drive and retrieve your data. You would need to find someone that has the appropriate cables to perform this task for you or be willing to purchase and give it a shot yourself. The cables that I purchased to perform this task are called "USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE" and can be had for about $20 from many on-line retailers.

Hey Guys,

@ DciAdmin, thanks again, your advice is always super .

@ Elit, my welcome to PCHF as well. First of all Don't Panic , DC's advice is correct, and there are other alternatives as well. There are services who specialize in getting data off of HDDs. If you let us know where in the States you live, we can probably direct you to one that is close to you. (For privacy sake, you can send me a Private Message by clicking on my name )

We have not only a great team of techs here but a very experienced and helpful user community, as you have already experienced, who can walk you through the steps if you'd like to try gettng the data yourself.

The good thing is that since the PC is turning on, you have an excellent chance of getting the data off without too much trouble.

Let us know what you would like to do, and we will help you make it happen.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN

LGW
