I have 2gb memory ram on my laptop with 2x1gb sticks. For the first time ever I looked at them & took the top one out to see what it looks like & write down the number on it. Im thinking of upgrading to 3 or 4gb mem.

Having put it back in place & switched my laptop back on I now have a problem. It doesnt show on my system information. My memory ram now reads as 766mb. Ive took it back out & put back again & it seems to be fitted ok. Do I need to do anything else? Why is it not showing? Does your comp tell you if its not in place properly. Or do I have to do any configuring etc.

On upgrading to 3 or 4gb; can I just replace one of the sticks with a 2gb & does it have to be the same brand/number as the other stick thats already there? Will there be compatibility issues? Its a Samsung R60plus Vista 32 bit btw.

Ok you are running Vista 32 bit it will only reconise 3.25 RAM so the 4 gig realy is just not worth buying.

I want the Samsung R60 or R70,

Make sure the RAM is seated correctly.

I would buy the 4GB of RAM, simply because the additional 1.25GB over 2 will have increased performance. try switching them around to the other slot. try with just 1 stick too. new ram will have to be the same speed, and timings as the others
