I installed 2 more 1GB DIMMS into my computer and then tried to boot it up. I then got an 8 beep code error (display memory read/write error). I took the memory back out, and then the computer booted fine.

Any idea as to why adding system memory would give me a display memory error? Thanks in advance!

System info: xp pro, currently 2Gb RAM

8 beeps usaly indicates Video adapter is missing, incorrectly seated or has faulty memory.

Did you seat the RAM correctly?You can double check this.Try one stick at a time and reboot see what happens.Is this new RAM brand new?

If your XP Pro is a 32 bit operating system it will only reconise 3.25 gig of RAM not the full 4 gig.

I will re-seat the ram one at a time just to be sure.

Yes, the ram is brand new. Also, the documentation on my mb says it can support up to 16Gb; it's a server mb.

I'm aware of the 3.25Gb limitation, but it was just easier to buy 2Gb.

Are you still getting beeps?Did you try one new stick then a reboot?

Then remove it and test the second one?

I just tried testing the sticks individually, and I still got the same beeps.

Any other ideas?

The RAM maybe faulty,or your RAM slots.

Ok remove one of the 2 gigs you already have fitted and put in one of the new sticks in that slot reboot what happens?

Ok, the old ram worked in the slots I had been putting the new ram in. Must mean there is something up with the new ram. Just seems weird that 2 sticks in seperate packages would be faulty.
