Smile Confused

I was going to increase the RAM for my son's PC, which is normally a simple process for me, but when I opened the case for his PC and removed his current memory chip the confusion began. The chip said it was a PC3200U-3033, 512MB DDR, 400MHz, CL3. The specs for the computer say it is suppose to be a PC2700-333, 512 MB DDR1, 400 MHz. At first I figured the manufactures just put in a faster chip. Then I checked BIOS and it is only registering a PC2700, 512 MB, DDR. It is an AMD Athlon 3200 +2.. GHz processor. This is an HP Pavilion a604x computer, a little bit old but fine for my 10 year old and all that he needs to do.
If someone can help clear this up for me I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you,
DLWilson61

Default Re: Confused

If I were to guess, I'd say the manufacturer just put the wrong sticker on the strip.

The devil in me suggest maybe someone put the wrong sticker on to get a higher price for it. But, that is just the devil in me talking.

Recommend you ignore the current memory and just get him the new memory. Go for the DDR2. Also, if you can afford it, go for 2 gig. He'll love you for it.

Warning: Don't try to just add on more memory. That could cause more problems than you want. Replace the memory.

thanks, I never looked at it that way. I knew I had to match what was there exactly, but with this confusion, I will probably be better off just getting new memory and to heck with the old.
